SPACE is a short term parent based intervention designed to treat children and adolescents
with anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Parents participate in SPACE treatment in order to help their child better manage their anxiety and
to prepare them for additional stressors that they will face as they grow and mature.

The primary target of this treatment is your child's anxiety and his/her ability to manage it.

Our focus on your behavior as a parent does not mean that you are to blame for your child's anxiety.
You are not the problem here, however you can be an important part of the solution.

Anxiety disorders make it difficult for children to function independently.
They  tend to rely heavily upon their parents to help them cope rather than learning to cope on their own.
As parents, we don't like to see our children suffering.

It is natural to for parents to step in, take action and provide relief for their children when they are in discomfort.
Parents are often torn between the need to help their child to feel better
and the desire to show them that there is no real danger.

Parents often fluctuate in their thoughts and statements between being overly protective  and being overly demanding

Parents who participate in SPACE learn skills and tools to help their child overcome anxiety.

The treatment focuses on changes that parents  make to their own behavior,
because we actually can't make other people change, we can only change how we respond.

That is why in this treatment offers something better.
We have tools so powerful that when parents use them they witness a significant change.

The wonderful thing is that the tool we use is one that you can control (your behavior),
that is how you think about and respond to your child's anxiety.

Research shows that you can be part of the solution by changing your responses to your child's anxiety.

The two main changes that parents learn to make in SPACE treatment are:
1) To Respond in a supportive manner to their anxious child and;
2) To Reduce the accommodations they have been making to the child's symptoms.

SPACE has been proven to be effective with some of the most common anxiety issues children face, including:

Separation anxiety
Social anxiety
Generalized anxiety
Fears and Phobias
Panic disorder and Agoraphobia
Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Emetophobia
